It wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy Hip Hop, I just felt RnB music was a little more musical.   It was a better chance I could listen to an R&B album all the way through.

A lot of times with Hip Hop there’d only be a couple songs I’d like on the album.  I just couldn’t afford that, literally.  Now if it was Biggie, Pac, Nas, Jay-Z, or Lauryn Hill that was another story.  That type of talent is rare and UnDeniable.

Still, most of the time you could find me listening to soft and smooth.  I’d lay there with my ear attached to the speaker without skipping a song.

Also, in RnB music you could listen to a wider range of artist, even unknown indie artist and still bang an entire album.

Right now some people are upset with the mixture of RnB and Hip Hop or the direction RnB is going.  Im happy with it.  There has to be evolution.  It seems like people are always against change.  To me we can’t be mad about RnB music mixing with Hip Hop because RnB over time has mixed with all music genres.  Blues, Jazz, Alternative, etc.

It’s hard not to mix with RnB because it’s so easy to listen to.  It has everything we love about music from the bass and percussion, the melody and harmony, the musicianship and the lyrical content.  More young hip hop fans are learning the greatness of RnB because of this mixture.  I love the lyrical delivery that’s becoming sort of Hip Hopish in RnB right now as well.

Wherever RnB music goes, I’ll probably follow.

I’d even like to see mixtapes in the same fashion as the Hip Hop artist are doing.  It seems like every hip hop artist is releasing a mixtape.  From the big names like Lil Wayne, Drake, and Niki Minaj to the hip hop artist that are unknown.   When it comes to creating a buzz, the mixtape seems to be highly respected.  Which is just what any artist wants to do, create a buzz and gain respect.

I think this technique could probably work for some of the new R&B artist. Imagine the talented up & coming R&B artist creating their sound using the melodies and harmonies of R&B on top of already popular R&B and Hip Hop beats.  Doing their interpretation of the song.  This would be equivalent to the Hip Hop artist taking a beat from a popular song and ripping it in the same melody but new lyrics.  

If it can be done correctly by the right artist this could boost exposure, maybe in the same way it’s worked for a lot of Hip Hop artist.  

This is something on my mind because I run into a lot of good R&B music online, but they’re just not heard by enough people to make a difference at the moment.  I think mixtapes could increase exposure for some of these R&B artist because of their unique styles.  

I believe mixing the uniqueness of the unheard with what people already know could be just as explosive in R&B as it is in Hip Hop…
